I have a story I wrote that I absolutely love - but I never liked the title. I've finally, seven months after posting, thought up a better one. However, the story has been recced in a couple of places under the original title. So, how obnoxious would it be to change the title on my LJ and AO3, while keeping the links intact?

Changing the story's title would be...

Your right as the author!
5(100.0%)
Mildly obnoxious
0(0.0%)
Moderately obnoxious
0(0.0%)
A horrible mistake
0(0.0%)
Something else, I'll explain in comments
0(0.0%)

And if I DO, would it be polite or presumptuous to contact the reccers and let them know?

I think it's completely your right to change the title, and it would be polite to message the reccers to let them know the title's changed- it's good practice to do that, I think, because it avoids confusion for all parties involved. Chances are they understand how effing difficult it is to thing of fic titles that fit, and will be grateful you made the effort to keep them in the loop.

I'd let them know that you've finally got a proper title for it -- I think everyone's thought of the perfect bon mot after walking away from something -- and maybe put a start note on AO3 that yes, this is still the fic formerly known as X.
