Writing traits meme

Gakked from ithildyn, and especially interesting now that the DS_Match stories are anonymously appearing day by day on ds_flashfiction.

What would you say are the trademarks of my writing? What themes or quirks or turns of phrase have you noticed? What is it that makes a story by me -- well, a story by me?

Putting the reader 'there'. You really feel the setting and emotions as a reader.

Thank you! Although I'd actually say that I'm rather lazy when it comes to scene-setting. Luckily, my betas don't let me get away with it. "Where are they now?" "Hold on, is this meant to be back at the Consulate?" "Maybe a few more details here?" I love betas!

Hmmm, it's tough to nail down any specific turns of phrase you use, or particular quirks. One of the things I admire the most about your writing is that you always show a lot of range, a pretty extensive vocabulary, and you vary your themes so that you're always coming at an issue from a new perspective. If anything, I'd say one of your trademarks is a well-written Dief. You write him as an animal, whereas most writers (me included) write him as a human in wolf's clothing. I like that animalistic side you bring out in him, and that extends to Fraser, too. Your Fraser is usually someone in touch with his animal nature.

Thanks, Nos! I've been getting a little bit paranoid about it, not wanting to post something that will instantly reveal me as the author of my ds_Match piece when it's posted.

a pretty extensive vocabulary
I had to write a "puissance" ficlet for malnpudl last night, since that's the word I failed to guess on that crazy FreeRice.com vocabulary game.

The interesting thing about Dief is that, given what we see in canon, an interpretation of him as a human in a wolf-suit is actually perfectly valid. Sort of a weird human, but I suppose no more so than Fraser. Just in a different direction. I just like having a wolf to play with as a major character.
