More Joy Day

Today is More Joy Day, courtesy of the gifted, generous, and delightful sdwolfpup. She said:
Write a fic, make an icon, make a vid, or make a fanart for someone. Buy someone paid time or userpics. Leave someone a nice comment. Say something nice about something fannish someone else loves. Say something nice about something fannish you love and encourage squee (and squee on someone else’s post if they make one!). Offer to beta for someone. Offer to donate five dollars to the charity of someone's choice. Send flowers to an online friend in a different city. Buy someone you know online a present. Or a virtual present. Plant a tree or a flower in someone's honor and take a picture of it and post it to your LJ. When somebody cuts you off at work, wish them well and hope they get where they’re going safely. Make somebody a friendship bracelet. Or a construction paper heart. Call someone you love and tell them so. Or anything else you can think of!

Some anonymous person gave me a virtual polar bear! It's so cute! Plus, I've gotten some comments on Father Confessor today. So, yes, you are all making me JOYFUL!

So far I've sent someone a gift and told someone else that I love him. And it's not even 7am! Later I plan to leave comments on some stories. Hurray!

ETA: I've given 5 sincere compliments, 3 pieces of feedback, and cut someone some slack when they needed it. I got a gold star with porn. And more lovely comments! And got extra happy from reading my f-list! This was a great idea!

I was almost all the way through it, and puzzled more and more, when I finally realised it didn't say "More Joe Day".

Dawson. I thought one of the subsect of HL fen decided to march for More Joe fic and stuff.

Although I could use caffeine right about now. Or, before I read my flist.

I completely support. In fact I think that in all the ficathons and challenges, having a More Joe Day is something that should really be organised.

Where is the parade? HLfiction? LJ? Someone doing a post for shorts in comments or is this a cry for all out fic? Should we cry for young Joe fic? Joe with OFC's? Joe chronicle entries? Joe pre-Duncan assignment? Joe goes home to Chicago? Joe and Lauren's courtship? We could pick one topic for every month of the year and go for "the year of Joe." ^_^

January is about over now, but February is nearly here. Joe needs romance for Valentine's Day. Or perhaps a time-warp "Groundhog Day" challenge where poor Joe is stuck in the same day over and over. March winds of change could easily offer a theme. There's also the possibility of a religious/Catholic focus due to Easter. April lends thoughts of Spring. Perhaps a challenge where Joe receives (or sends) a gift of flowers? May brings Memorial Day weekend. An easy theme given Joe's background. June brings Father's Day. A month of stories about Joe and Amy (or Joe and Amy's mom?) wouldn't be amiss. July is typically patriotic again but perhaps it would be a good month for flashbacks and Young Joe? August usually sees people headed back to school. Watcher fic might work for this. Something plotty? Perhaps something blues or background related? September brings Labor Day. I'd go for stories that must involve fireworks (this could work very well for people writing combo fic as I can see a Quickening covered by fireworks or in a fireworks warehouse or somesuch). It's also Jim's birthday month and we could easily decide to do birthday theme stories. Now we're at October already! Halloween is the obvious choice so I'm inclined to say skip that and go for something else. Fall is a wonderful time to fall in love. I'd say Joe and OFC's or a past flame. November - stories of thankfulness, though not necessarily of Thanksgiving the holiday. December, snow and ice.

I'm reading other people's entries here on LJ but no longer posting. Shall I throw out the ball in Insane Journal and see if anyone is game? Since I don't think there are many looking at my journal anyway, I can post it on the HL community there and open a challenge on HLfiction for people to use to link their stories.

BTW, I did just that for "Joe and Amanda are Love." If you haven't put your stuff there and linked it to the challenge I'd love for you to do so. ^_^

So... I'm new to fandom in general, even newer to due South, my current addiction, so I just now figured out what More Joy Day was all about. :)

As the day draws to a close, I want to thank you for your amazing "Con Job," which I read randomly when it came across crack_van. It was really my introduction to dS, and afterwards I was totally hooked. (Ooh, I should thank nos4a2no9 as well. Even more joy.)

Thank you so much for this comment, amestina! I am truly honored. And also somewhat bemused - "Con Job" isn't exactly the typical fannish interpretation of Ray Kowalski!

This I figured out later! But even after watching and reading more, your characterization is still convincing, as if you're revealing the inner Ray, not rewriting him. I was also intrigued by your snapshot of Fraser: his guileless, Queen's-English sexuality, intensity and innocence (at least in Ray's eyes...).

And beyond all of that, your writing style is great, an (unlikely?) combination of hardboiled-detective-novel and beautiful metaphors.

I got a gold star with porn.

Glad you were happy with your star. And your porn.
