Character: God, Castiel
Rating: G
Author's Notes: Written for the spnland 'Dear John' short writing competition and supernatural100 prompt #248, "Soar".
Length: 100 words
Disclaimer: Castiel belongs to the CW. But I think God has a prior claim.
Summary: Not a sparrow falls that He does not know and allow for His reason. What then do we have to fear?

I see how you and your brothers have suffered, Castiel. I know that Free Will is a bitter prize.

When I stepped back far enough for my children to stretch their wings, they squawked abandon and pecked at each other, hoping I might return to impose order.

I won’t. The dream of what you might become shines too bright.

There’s no returning to your gentle cage. Brave the wild winds. Show them the way. For you alone, of all my angels, have always followed the true compass of your heart.

Fly free, Beloved, and know that I am with you.

Oh, YES!!! Not the world's biggest Castiel fan, but really, of all the angels( that we know about, anyway), he was the only one that actually followed what we think of as angelic principles, and never forgot about God and what he would want for the world. I like to think of Cas up whipping heaven into shape and getting back to the business of watching over the world instead of trying to destroy it.

*nods* You can certainly see why God would want him in charge. Thanks, tifaching!

I was nervous at first when I read the tag and "pairing", but I understand that now. It's very sweet and I think it fits perfectly to how Castiel sees his Father.. and how God has been written into the show.
Good job!

*laughs* I know, I know. The challenge was to write a 'love note', and this is definitely about love. In the Biblical sense! But not that way ...

Thank you for the comment, mizra.

Wow. We never get to see God's true POV on the show (that's probably a good thing, knowing how controversial or cracky that could turn out) and I thought this was lovely. It's thoroughly convinced me that there needs to be more God 'n' Cas stories.

Thank you! Surprisingly few authors in the fandom take on the challenge of writing God. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one!

OMG, I totally loved this. *_* You've caught perfectly the cadence of how God would speak to Castiel!

Thanks, vasiliki! There's a certain hubris to writing God, so I'm glad you feel I pulled it off.
