Two poems written for the second spnland 'Roses are red' poetry writing challenge.

Title: Empty Space
Pairings/Warnings: Dean/Lisa, Spoilers for 'Swan Song'
Subject: Dean tries to keep his promise.

Dean has
an empty space
just behind, and to his right.

It’s the place
he turns to talk to.
Then stops, and doesn’t talk.

It’s the space
Ben doesn’t stand in.
Kid’s smart; he knows he’ll never fill it.

It’s the taste
of Lisa’s tears
when she finally just quits asking.

Empty space
empty car
empty heart.

Title: The Horsemen's Ballade
Pairings/Warnings: None
Subject: I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals.

I was there
when the first-born sons of Egypt died.
Now humans travel at the speed of sound
spreading epidemics from the jungles of the Amazon to the streets of New Delhi.
Family men in grey suits and white coats
weaponize anthrax and store botulism toxin in fragile glass vials.
Mankind is mine.

I was there
when Cain murdered his brother.
Now young boys dream of war
of becoming heroes in a baptism of fire.
Neighbors slaughter each other
in His name, for a colorful flag – any excuse will do.
Mankind is mine.

I was there
when Eve took a bite of the apple.
Now they hunger even while drowning in abundance
and glut themselves, enslaved by their own desires.
To abate the suffering of their cravings
they devour the world acre by acre, drop by drop.
Mankind is mine.

I was there
when God first created Man in His image.
With every numbered beat of their hearts,
humans destroy just a little more than they create.
And so mankind is mine.

Wow. Just wow. The first one killed me. The second one scared me. Both are awesome.

Thanks, tifaching! Poetry's unexpectedly difficult, but I'm quite pleased with these.
