Just went to a Bruce Boxleitner panel. I thought I'd record some of what I heard, in case anyone's interested.

He seems like a nice fellow who clearly views acting as a job. When asked about any current projects, he talked about how, as a "darling of the Syfy channel" he's in a lot of creature features. He kills aliens. They kill him. Sometimes there are giant fish involved. Apparently he's also in a pilot for a comedy-western inspired by Deadwood. And he described himself as a 'man-whore' who's always happy to talk to any director out there who might give him a job.

Here are a few things he had to say about B5:

1) JMS was the best writer he's ever worked with. Gave him the opportunity to run the gamut of human emotions, from A-Z. Besides an an outstanding imagination, JMS's particular genius was his ability to really watch and listen to his actors, and incorporate their speech patterns and personalities into those of the characters. Apparently when Bruce showed up at the start of season 2 John Sheridan was a rather generic ship's captain who JMS quickly modified after seeing him in action. And Ivanovna? "Have you ever seen Claudia at a convention?" Bruce nods vigorously. "Ivanovna is Claudia to a T."

Bruce said that this makes a huge difference in TV shows (as opposed to movies where you can be more of a chameleon), because the actor's persona will always shine through, and that JMS' work made it so that reinforced the characters.

2) They shot B5 in a studio out in the San Fernando Valley, very isolated, which really made the show, and the ship, a tight knit community. Guest stars were greeted with, "What news?" They had air conditioning indoors on the sound stage, but at it reach scorching hot temps of 100, 110 outside. And Andreas K could often be found, in his full make-up, sitting outside smoking in the heat, chatting about philosophy. Apparently it was quite a while before Bruce ever got to meet Andreas without his make-up on.

3) Bruce talked about the ending of the show, both the final episode of season 4, when they had a last-minute post-season reprieve, and the final episode of season 5. Apparently there were a lot of tears, and the entire cast and crew gathered around the sound stage during his final speech, sitting under cameras and behind the lights. Bruce said he wished JMS would have gone for another season. He felt there was more story to tell, and that since they had just appeared on the cover of TV Guide it could have gone longer.

4) When fans asked about a possible B5 revival, Bruce said he hadn't heard anything, and that they were missing two of their most beloved characters. (He spoke fondly of both Andreas and Richard.) But he knew that the DVDS were coming out re-packaged next month, which could be a sign of the studio drumming up interest, and that JMS was scheduled to make some kind of announcement next month.

I DID! It was really pretty awesome! Also, the Comicon fellow running the panel was a HUGE fan and let us know he was having some trouble coming up with good follow-up questions because his brain was full of, "ZOMG, I'm sitting next to Bruce Boxleitner."

Thanks! That's fascinating, all of it. Doing more would be...odd, not sure how I feel about that.

*nods* Actually, I would not be in favor. B5 is one of the few shows that did a truly incredible job of finding resolution, and I'd hate to disturb it.

Also - They are OURS now. I can write what I want and never have to worry about canon suddenly making it AU. (SPN is my first 'current fandom', and I find it rather unnerving.)
