Norwescon schedule this weekend

I'll be presenting several panels at Norwescon this weekend in Seattle. Here's my schedule in case any of you might be looking for me!

BDSM Beta Friday 8:00pm-9:00pm Cascade 8
(...or, how to stop yourself before you write another 50 Shades of Grey) When it comes to fanfiction, and real fiction, it's extremely important to get your facts right, especially when you're going to be exploring BDSM scenarios with readers who might think to themselves, "That sounds hot. I'm gonna try it!" Come and learn about some of the worst mistakes in fictional representations of BDSM and come with questions on how it really all works and what resources are available to help you write good BDSM. 18+ ONLY
Keerawa, Jean Johnson, Lilith von Fraumench

Writing Sex: The Elements of Slash Friday 9:00pm-10:00pm Cascade 8
Most of us have read slash and loved it, but how exactly does it work? What are the nuts and bolts of writing a good sex scene? This panel will examine a few pieces to see how writers create their effects, with an eye toward some of the basic questions: how explicit should you be? What does "explicit" mean, anyway? Is it about how much metaphor you use? How many body parts you describe and how? Several writers will talk about their processes and take questions from the audience about how to go about this scariest of writing tasks. 18+ ONLY
Liz Eckhart (Professorfangirl), Keerawa, Jean Johnson, Berlynn Wohl

Transphobia: A Panel for Allies of Trangender Folk Saturday 6:00pm-7:00pm Cascade 7
An entry-level discussion on some of the facets of transgender identities. We'll discuss terminology, pronoun usage, whether there's a difference between sex and gender, and when it's best to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Suggested pre-panel Googling: Not Your Mother's Trans 101, Gender Binary, Silencing Tactics
Lilith von Fraumench, Keerawa, Amber Clark, Ro Yoon

Keerawa reads The Monster in the Hat Saturday 8:00pm-8:30pm Cascade 1
A Dr. Seuss horror pastiche - if you put your kids to bed with this one, don't expect them to sleep! Rated PG

Write a Fanfic in an Hour Sunday Noon-2:00pm Rainier
Have you ever wanted to write a fanfic, but just never were able to before? Fret not! In this panel, a team of fanfic writers will help you work past your fears and jump feet first into writing! A number of different ideas will be presented as inspirational starting points and then after the hour is up, attendees share their works and get constructive pointers on what worked, what didn't and how they can improve their stories.
Micole Rose, Keerawa, Erik Scott de Bie

I'm participating in a writing workshop, and I'll probably attend the fanfic social and writer's workshop social. There will also be dancing and gaming. (Table-top or LARP? I' haven't decided.) I hope to see some of you there!

I wish. The Elements of Slash sounds particularly up my alley.

And I'd love to be there to hear you read The Monster in the Hat!

Have a wonderful time.

It should be fun. I have a rather unorthodox approach to writing sex scenes that I'm looking forward to sharing with others. I'll probably record a podfic of The Monster in the Hat soon, since I've finally got my tech issues sorted out.

WOW...sounds interesting and entertaining! Unfortunately I live in UK. I don't suppose there's any chance that the BDSM and writing slash dialogues, or speech can be transcribed and put on your journal or something?

There's no way I could pull off a transcript, but I can probably put together a post that skims the high points for you and anyone else who might be interested.
