2015 Yuletide Reveal Post

This year, despite not signing up for Yuletide, I picked up 2 pinch-hits, wrote a treat in the main collection, and wrote an additional 4 treats in the Madness collection.

I was gifted with an absolutely lovely gen Orange is the New Black story, Sweet and Sour (3258 words) by thelittlestbird. Do check it out!

The stories I wrote were in the fandoms of: Orange is the New Black, Ghosts music video - Hayley, Vorkosigan saga, Kushiels' Legacy verse, Vampire: the Masquerade, Baldur's Gate, and @TLFTravelAlerts.

I really enjoyed writing all of them! Suzanne is my favorite character from OitNB, and writing a sci-fi AU where she gets the girl, and a bit more respect than in our world was a lot of fun. The part of the story which attracted the most comment from reader's was the little bit of 'romantic' poetry that Suzanne wrote for Maureen, which I think is really intersting. I spent a lot of time researching some world-building here, which is in the background of the story, looking at how this future might function.

Learning to Breathe in Outer Space (3389 words) by keerawa
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Orange is the New Black
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences

Additional Tags: Alternate Universe, Alternate Universe - Future, Alternate Universe - Space, Asexual Character, Neurodiversity, Yuletide 2015, Misses Clause Challenge, First Kiss
Summary:

The application process was beyond competitive - over 750,000 candidates applied for the 500 slots on the first Alpha Centauri mission. Suzanne figured those were pretty good odds.

The 'Ghosts' story was pretty experimental for me - 1st person dialogue-less femslash porn with ghosts possessing people so they can have sex with each other. It didn't get all that many hits, comments or kudos, and I suspect I cost myself half the potential readers by writing the title half in Japanese, but the language barrier was rather essential to the point. (Yes, my PWP has artistic aspirations.) Luckilu, my recipient left two, count 'em TWO very enthusiastic comments, so I feel like I won Yuletide.

In Vorkosigan saga, Simon has always been a puzzling character for me - his moral schema doesn't match that of his surrounding culture, and his memory chip must make for a truly unique inner landscape. I had a good time wrestling with him as narrator.

I wrote a Kushiel's Legacy treat for a pinch-hitter in the Madness collection. Her prompt was about people whoi's desires didn't quite fit into the purview of the Houses as set-up in the Court of Night-Blooming Flowers, and I immediately thought of Melisande. For anyone who doesn't know, I am fascinated by Melisande, who is, IMHO, one of the finest antagonists ever written. I wrote a piece of back-story for her.

Admittedly, Mazzy should have thought this through a bit better.

My @TLFTravelAlerts drabble is a parody of Yeats' Second Coming. I made a ridiculous number of edits to it, trying to throw in just the right in-jokes from the Twitter source, maintaining enough consistency with the Yeats source, while still having it scan correctly, include evocative imagery, be exactly 100 words, and be, well, FUN. I really do love it, so I'm glad a number of other people appreciated it, too!
