Vid: "Life Among the Watchers"

Fandom: Highlander
Summary: Joe Dawson is caught between the Watchers and Immortals.
Song: "All Along the Watchtowers" by Jimi Hendrix
Rated: Teen for violence and loss.
Thanks to: killabeez for her terrific beta and insight into this song.
Author's Note: The lyric that originally matched Joe with this song in my head was,

"All I've got is my red guitar,
three chords, and the truth."

Those words aren't in this version of the song, which I picked because Jimi's guitar speaks to Joe's life. But you might keep Bono's lyrics in mind as you watch the vid.

Download the 24 MB DivX avi from my website.

ETA: Or watch it streaming from Imeem!

I just downloaded and watched this. My son came running in wanting to know what that music was *g*.

It was a wonderful vid. I loved that it was from Joe's pov. You captured it all beautfully. Very well done.

He doesn't know Jimi Hendrix? Oh, your son needs a musical education! I was just blissing out on "Purple Haze" this afternoon.

I've been writing so much from inside Joe's head it wasn't hard to vid from his perspective.

Thank you, pat!

Joe never gets enough fan time in my book. Are you and I the only ones that have done Joe vids? Surely not. *boggles*

The best part, for me, is that you get to see young Joe here. I love that episode and I loved the casting of Chris Bradford for the flashback. He's just so totally boy scout and fresh faced. You can just see him in a football uniform with Betsy.

And, lets face it, Hendrix is a real match for Joe on so many levels. The song is particularly apt given it's lyrics and the fact that it's so closely associated with a seminal period in Joe's life. How many times have they done 'Nam clips to that tune? Watching poor Joe step on that mine to that song is just painful.

I didn't know you were a vidder! The only other Joe vid I've seen is Shalott's "Free man in Paris". Is yours available on-line?

That was an amazing episode. Seeing young Joe trying so hard to do the right thing. A Boy Scout indeed.

How many times have they done 'Nam clips to that tune?
Exactly! As a vidder, I get the benefit of all the Vietnam movies people have watched to that song.

Actually, I started doing vids for HL before I wrote stories. I've done three (with a fourth on my drive I've been messing with for two months that's coming out totally different than what I intended and just can't get happy about). All of them are uploaded to youtube but bigger versions are on my server. One focuses on Methos' dysfunctional relationships. One is all about Methos and Joe (and could probably be seen as semi slashy even though it wasn't intended at the time). The other is an attempt to put Methos in context with 5000 years of history (and was a response to a prompt on the HL LJ by someone that wanted to see HL done to Depeche Mode). Here are links:

I don't know if I've seen "Free Man in Paris." I'll go have a look. ^_^ I've got a fifth I've been ploting for Joe to The Guess Who (The Watcher) and have been ripping for but haven't yet put together. Guess I'll see what I have time for when I'm done with all this paperwork. I can't wait to be rid of it!

I've downloaded all 3, and am looking forward to watching them when I'm fully concious.

Wonderful
I'm dating myself but I saw Jimi Hendrix perform at the Filmore West. Granted, I was just a kid but what memories and the vid speaks so clearly of Joe's life and times. Thanks.
