Escapade Question

Hello there friends list!

I know some of you have attended Escapade before, and I had a question for you.

I'm thinking of submitting "Crown of Thorns" for the Vidshow, since they've extended the deadline.

Now, for any of you who haven't seen that vid, it is a look at Duncan MacLeod's loves over his lifetime. And, at least in my universe, that includes both men and women.

I understand that Escapade is strictly a slash convention. The vid starts out with two het relationships, Debra and Tessa. Methos and Brian Cullen end up getting lots of time, but the women probably get more play than they do.

So, would the vid be appropriate for Escapade? Or would people throw things at the screen?

I emailed the vid show coordinator about this, and she said Escapade accepts vids of all stripes, including het and gen.

You emailed her on my behalf? I feel so ENCOURAGED.

Now I must submit the vid!

Officially, all kinds of vids are welcome at Escapade. There are lots of gen vids. Het vids have also been shown there before. Nobody will throw stuff at the screen, and Highlander is still a popular (and in the past few years, rarely vidded) Escapade fandom.

The reaction to het vids seems to have a lot to do with who the characters are. Lead characters like Xena or Buffy or Nikita, or fun characters like Amanda, tend to get a better reception than One True Love kind of het vids. If I ever made another Sad Tessa Vid (which I'm not -- killabeez and I have taken vows) I doubt I'd pick Escapade for it.

If it's mostly a character piece about Duncan -- which is what it sounds like -- I would say absolutely go for it. I've been poking about what sounds like a vaguely similarly themed vid for years now, and if I ever finished it, I wouldn't hesitate to show it at Escapade.

Hope that helps?
