dS Snippet: Burning Down the Locker Room

Fandom: due South
Characters: Fraser and a man who is not Ray Vecchio
Rating: A naughty little G
Challenge: Written for the justbreathe80's Less is More Challenge
Notes: Just a quick unbeta'd snippet, dashing in under the deadline.
Disclaimer: due South, Fraser, and the Rays belong to Alliance/Atlantis.

I paused on my way out of the locker room, struck by the sight of a pile of clothes on the floor in front of Ray's locker. It, more than fingerprints, dental cast, and nose measurements, proved conclusively that this man was not Ray Vecchio. Ray was always meticulous in caring for his apparel.

I felt moved to correct the mess. The sodden suit jacket I picked up and straightened out with a quick flick of the wrists, releasing the acrid scent of smoke into the room. I laid the jacket out neatly on the bench. His pants were next, heavy black denim. I knew from experience just how uncomfortable wet jeans were. However, Ray's complaints on the way back to the station house had focused more on the indignity of riding in the back of a squad car than on his car, clothing, or personal discomfort. I folded the pants and placed them next to the jacket.

Underneath were Ray's shirts. I found myself brushing at a rough spot on the turtleneck – the bullet hole. I quickly folded the shirt around the blemish, banishing it to an inner crease, and picked up Ray's undershirt, examining it closely under the light. It was unmarked, although I suspected that Ray might well carry a bruise on his skin. The t-shirt smelled of smoke and lake water, but it also carried Ray's own scent.

I sniffed under the arm of the t-shirt, in the interests of a full comparison. This man smelled nothing like Ray Vecchio. Ray had worn Brut deodorant. This shirt had a much more subtle musk overlaying honest sweat.

I hungrily breathed in the essence of the man who had saved my life.

Oh dear.

I dropped the t-shirt on top of his undergarments and fled the locker room.

Wow, I really love the idea that Ray's scent is the thing that first has Fraser falling for him. And in my mind I had naked!Ray just the other side of the locker room door. Guh.

Also? Ray's complaints on the way back to the station house had focused more on the indignity of riding in the back of a squad car. Oh, that is such a Ray thing to do.

Smell is, at least for me, the most sensual and emotional of the senses. Fraser can find clues by sniffing a rat's breath - scents must be incredibly evocative for him.

I had a late night Ray Muse seriously PO'd about being driven back to the 2-7 that way!

Loved the "oh dear." And the rapid hiding of the bullet hole.

Fraser's quite good at avoiding things he doesn't really want to think about.

Thanks for the comment, spuffyduds!

Fraser sniffing things? It can't be!

Very enjoyable - so short but it packs a punch. I liked the little touch of Ray not complaining about the things Vecchio probably would have (at least that's what I took from that), and the end was rather surprisingly sexy.

Thank you! That's exactly what was going on there, and the challenge was all about trying to write a sexy G-rated story, so I'm pleased as punch that it worked for you!
